League Rules
Commissioner and CaptainsThe league commissioner is Chilly. Captains will be determined by allowing players to volunteer during signups. Priority for season 1 will be to give priority to YinYarr members, sorted by when they became a member. Future leagues will be selected differently.
All major decisions will be voted on by Chilly and the captains. Captains will also be responsible for organizing one or more practices for their team and will have the final say on team-specific decisions (team name, who will play which class, etc).
EligibilityAll players are welcome to participate in league assuming three things:
- They have registered for a YinYarr forum account.
- They have installed and configured TeamSpeak (no microphone required).
- They aren't a jerk.
Players will be asked to designate themselves as a pirate or ninja when signing up for the league, since we'll be designating an MVP from each category at the conclusion of the league.
TeamsThe number of teams will be determined by the number of players. Teams will have a maximum of 9 players. Teams will be selected by the captains in playground style. Each team will get a thread on the forums and will be able to choose a unique name for itself.
If players wish to join the league after it starts, it will be at the discretion of the commissioner and captains. The team with the fewest players in the previous match will get the new player, unless agreed upon differently and unanimously by all of the captains and commissioner.
ScheduleThe number of weeks will be determined by the number of teams, but most likely we will have 6 weeks total. This will include a mix of episodic and linear CP maps, CTF maps, and escort maps. Maps will be voted on by league participants.
Matches will be played on Fridays at 7pm (Central Daylight Time) and will last approximately one hour each. Matches will not be played during American holidays. British/Canadian holidays will be considered as well if they affect more than a few players.
The entire schedule will be detailed before the first round is played, so teams will know who they're playing and what map they're playing on. The server will be available for each team for 1 hour practice each week. This time slot will be selected before the first round.
MatchesClass Limitations: This league is highlander style. At any given moment, teams may not have more than one player of each class. Players are allowed to swap classes with a teammate as long as they do so at the same time. Teams with fewer than 9 players may allow their players to change to unused classes at any time.
Unbalanced Teams: Teams will play all of their available players during a match. The team with fewer players will get to decide if they want to start as red or blue. Even teams will result in red/blue being determined randomly.
Record Keeping: Each team is required to submit the screenshot from the end of the match. Points per team and player will be tallied on this web page. If any YinYarr member wants to write articles about the matches, they're welcome to in the news section.
Admin Abuse: No players are allowed to use admin controls unless both captains agree on it.
Voice Chat: All players will be asked to join a single match Teamspeak channel. Lighthearted trash talking is encouraged. In-game all-talk will be off, so teams may use that to talk with their team regarding enemy locations and strategy.
Rule Violations, Cheating, EtcMap exploits are not allowed. Cheating is not allowed. Feel free to spawn kill, chat kill, medic-soldier combo, etc. Just make sure you have fun and don't be a jerk about it.
Rule violations will be discussed by Chilly and the captains. Any violations may be subject to disqualification for all remaining rounds and/or disqualification from future leagues.
AwardsAs explained earlier, each player must designate themselves as being a pirate or ninja when signing up for league. All league participants will get a "Season 1 Pirate" or "Season 1 Ninja" award. We'll also designate the Pirate MVP (most points), Ninja MVP (most points), and sum the total pirate and ninja scores to see which one won. We'll also allow captains to designate one player from their team as MLB (Most Like Beer)... that is, the player that did the most to make matches more enjoyable. Players on the league's winning team will get "Season 1 Champion" awards.
All of these awards will be listed on the main league page, which will persist through future leagues, allowing players to stockpile awards. They may or may not be traded like Pokemon cards.
League ChampionTeam scores will be tallied from every week, with the total determining the league champions at the end. Per-week ties/stalemates are allowed, but an overall league tie will be decided by a 1-1 fight between the captains in a duel map. Captains will play once as each class against their enemy as the same class. Captain with most kills after finishing all 9 classes wins.
Gametype ScoringCaptains are responsible for keeping score during matches. Players are also encouraged to record a demo if possible. If nobody from either team knows the final score from the match, both teams will be deducted 1 point from their overall total.
Linear CP: Teams will play once as red and once as blue. Standard scoring for TF2's tournament mode applies, with a timelimit of 30 minutes.
Episodic CP: Teams will play once attacking and once defending. Standard scoring for TF2's tournament mode applies, which awards a point per CP capture.
CTF: Teams will play for 30 minutes up to 9 captures. Teams will get one point per flag capture.
Escort (Single Stage): Teams play once attacking and once defending. Whichever team wins gets four points.
Escort (Multi Stage): Episodic CP rules apply.
Any other unique game types will be excluded for the first league.
